Hobart City High School is a co-educational school in the heart of Hobart that offers the Australian Curriculum to students across Years 7 to 12. Students engage in curriculum offerings across English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Heath and Physical Education, Technologies, the Arts and Languages, and Vocational Training. Students are supported through contemporary theories of learning specifically related to learner differences and learner needs.
Alumni include leaders or innovators in a range of fields including entrepreneurs, executives, scientists, doctors, policy makers, musicians, and the creative Arts. Hobart City High School has produced more Rhodes Scholars than any other government secondary school in Tasmania.
Hobart City High School has a close partnership with Elizabeth College that gives students strong learning pathways to go on to employment, further training, or university. Elizabeth College coordinates Years 11 and 12 subjects that are run at Hobart City High School. Hobart City High School also enjoys a strong relationship with the University of Tasmania that offers students further extension and opportunities.

Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 are located on the Ogilvie Campus. The New Town Campus focusses on Year 10 and hosts the Hobart Big Picture Academy for Years 9 to 12.
School houses, clubs, and sporting days, and many enrichment activities are co-educational, bringing together students from both campuses.
The New Town campus will focus on Years 9 and 10, with specialist offerings for Years 11 and 12. Ogilvie campus will focus on Years 7 and 8 and continue to host the Hobart Big Picture program for Years 9 to 12.
