Newsletter No 1, Friday 21 February
News From The Principal
Welcome back to another exciting year at Hobart City High School! I hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for a term filled with learning, growth and new opportunities.
This year, we continue to embed our 4Bs – Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Learner – into everything we do. These core values guide our school culture, ensuring that all students and staff feel supported, included, and empowered to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
A huge thank you to all the families who attended our Meet the Teacher event! It was wonderful to see so many of you engaging with our staff, learning about the year ahead and strengthening the home-school partnership. Your support and involvement play a vital role in your young persons success and we truly appreciate your time and commitment.
We are excited to officially launch our Year 9 Horizons Program, designed to broaden students’ learning experiences, challenge their thinking, and develop key skills for their future pathways. This program will provide rich learning opportunities across career, adventure, excellence and service. We look forward to seeing our Year 9 students embrace this new initiative. As part of this program all year 9 students will be going on an excursion this Tuesday, 25 February.
A reminder that validation forms must be returned as soon as possible. These forms are essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for your young person, including emergency contacts and medical details. If you haven’t already done so, please submit them to the office at your earliest convenience.
Exciting News – Congratulations, Mr Hughes!
A huge congratulations to Mr Andrew Hughes on the birth of his beautiful baby girl! We wish him and his family all the best during this special time. During the next four weeks, Mr Charlie Williams will be stepping into the role of Acting Principal while Mr Hughes is on leave.
Hobart City High School Association.

News From Our School Health Nurses
This year, Hobart City High School has two School Health Nurses, Anita and Nicole who will be working across both Ogilvie and New Town Campuses during 2025.
School Health Nurses provide health and wellbeing education and support to students on a wide number of topics including:
- Hearing and Vision screening
- Positive Mental Health strategies eg: Mindfulness
- Oral Health
- Sexual Health, Puberty and Periods
- Decreasing alcohol and drug use (including smoking and vaping)
- Gender and Sexuality
- Sleep
- Nutrition and Physical Activity
- Support booking health services such as GP and dentist appointments
If you think this service would be beneficial to your child, please discuss this with your child and their home group teacher who can submit a referral to the School Health Nurse. Alternatively, students can request an appointment via their Home Group Teacher or Grade Team Leaders or speak to the School Health Nurse directly.

Hobart City High Rowing Team
Hobart City High School rowing teams participated in the Royal Hobart Regatta over the weekend. These events offer young rowers valuable experience and an introduction to competitive racing in a supportive environment. Rowing is a key part of our summer social and sporting calendars. Best of luck to HCHS teams in their upcoming events in Franklin and Lake Barrington!
