This week, we are thrilled to send our best wishes to the two teams representing Hobart City High School and Tasmania at the Tournament of Minds International Finals in Sydney. Competing at this level is a remarkable achievement, and we’re incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication. Good luck to everyone involved – we’re cheering you on!
We also have students competing in the Solar Car Challenge this week, bringing innovation and teamwork to the forefront. We wish them all the best as they demonstrate their skills and passion for sustainable technologies.
A special congratulations to all students who took part in the Australian Maths Competition. Your commitment to challenging yourselves and developing your mathematical abilities is commendable, and we look forward to celebrating your achievements.
We’re excited to invite you to the Ignite Arts Showcase, a vibrant celebration of creativity and talent at Hobart City High School! Our students have been working diligently across visual arts, dance, music, drama, and media to create an inspiring display of their artistic abilities. The showcase promises to be an engaging evening, featuring performances and exhibitions that highlight the passion and skill of our students. We welcome families, friends, and community members to join us in celebrating the arts. Keep an eye out for the QR code and we hope to see you there!

Library News
The library monitors created a display in the Reading Room on the New Town Campus to encourage students to read widely. It took some time to create, and it is gratifying to see students take ownership of the library spaces.

Duke of Edinburgh Camp
Our Duke of Edinburgh campers had an amazing time at the Walls of Jerusalem! With beautiful weather and clear skies, they enjoyed breathtaking views, challenging hikes, and the serenity of Tasmania’s stunning wilderness. A great opportunity to challenge themselves and enjoy Tasmania’s natural beauty!
Visit to CSIRO
Our Year 10 Physical Science and Biology students had an incredible opportunity to visit CSIRO. Students gained first-hand insight into the world of science by touring laboratories, engineer workshops and stepping aboard the Investigator research vessel. It was an immersive experience that inspired our students to further explore careers in marine science. As always, a big thank you to the amazing team at Beacon Foundation for inviting us and thank you to Ben and the team at CSIRO for making this eye-opening excursion possible!
Tasmanian Hospitality Recruitment Fair
On Wednesday 23 October Big Picture students attended the Tasmanian Hospitality Recruitment Fair at the Old Woolstore Apartments. Students met with employers, tried out different aspects of the hospitality industry and received a tour of the hotel. Some students made invaluable contacts in the industry and networked with employers looking for staff. They learnt that a key part of this industry is about building relationships with customers.
