Message from the Principals
Welcome to Term 4. This is a very busy term with lots happening. This week we held a transition activity for our Year 8 and 9 Ogilvie Campus students who went across to the New Town Campus whilst the New Town Campus students were out for the day at their swimming carnival. Despite being threatened by rain, the Ogilvie Campus students had a great day experiencing their normal classes with the usual teachers in the New Town environment and were treated to a free morning tea and lunch from the New Town Campus Canteen. They were also given the opportunity to provide feedback on what changes and additions they might like to see for 2023. It was lovely to hear from one of the students, "Today was great! I can actually see myself coming here next year".
We have had a number of succesful students in various fields over recent weeks. I would like to congratulate - An L, Madeline S, Lilly C, Sierra G, Ava B, Elijah M, Annie G, Ling Rui D and Summa G for winning awards at the 2022 Youth Art and Student Photography Competition.

Over the holidays our Tournament of Minds team went to Canberra to compete in the National Championships. Whilst they did not win, they had a wonderful time, challenged their brains and made lots of new friends. We are looking forward to further Tournament of Minds opportunities for our students next year. A big thankyou to the two staff members who gave up some of their valuable holidays to support them, Hayley Noonan and Sean Newbold. Sara Mulholland also attended with her daughter representing her primary school.
Arts Showcase
Coming up next Thursday between 5:30 and 7:00 pm is our very first Arts Showcase event. There is further information about this inaugural event in our newsletter.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
In staff development this week, three of our staff together with two Elizabeth College staff took part in Duke of Edinburgh Award training. 2023 will be the first year that both HCHS Year 9 and 10 students and Elizabeth College students can participate in this wonderful oppotunity. Participants get to participate in a wide range of experiences including voluntary service, physical recreation, skill development in an area of passion for the student as well as an adventure trip. By successfully participating in these activities, students acrue points for their TCE as well as gain valuable skills for their ongoing personal development and preparation for life after school. We are looking forward to showcasing this program and our students next year.
School Uniform Update
We will publish a separate newsletter about our new school uniform shortly. We are very excited to share that all items are currently in production and will be ready for the 2023 school year and will be available from the School Locker in Cambridge. We are currently going through a process of consulting with our students and School Association to form our new dress code policy and we will publish this as soon as possible. It is expected that all 2023 Year 7 and 8 students will be in the new uniforms and we will consult through the School Association to clarify the expectations for Year 9 students. Year 10 students will be permitted to wear either the old New Town Campus items, or the Ogilvie Campus items or the new items but a mix/combination of the three uniforms will not be permitted. It will be wonderful to have the majority of our student body showcasing our new identity through our uniforms next year.
Enjoy the wonderful showcase of happenings around our school contained in this newsletter.

Welcome Picnic 2023 - Save the Date!
We are excited to announce that we will be holding a "Welcome Picnic" for families of Years 7 and 8 students on 1 March 2023 from 3:30 pm at the Ogilvie Campus. Families have told us they would love to get to know the school and each other better. With many similar events from the past unable to go ahead in recent years due to Covid 19 restrictions. There will also be a ‘Meet the Teachers’ event at the New Town Campus on Tuesday 28 February 2023. More details coming soon.
Help wanted! If you would like to help us run the event on 1 March we’d really appreciate it. Please send us an email - hchs.association@education.tas.gov.au.

Year 9/10 Catering
Bienvenido a nuestro plato espanol!
Year 9/10 Catering students were asked to design a grazing platter using different tapas ideas – ranging from fried squid with romescu sauce, garlic prawns, empanadas, chorizo in cider, pan tomate and patatas bravas. They worked in teams to vie for the honour and glory of producing the winning platter of the day. Have a look! Mucho delicioso!
The team also worked together to produce a Summer Berry Tiramisu as our entry for the Tasmanian Hospitality Association’s cooking competition. The theme was Italian. The students worked together to make an orange mascarpone cream, segment oranges, macerate berries and finally make almond toffee shards for this special occasion dessert. Buon Appetito!

Year 9/10 Construction
The Year 9/10 Construction class has been building mini brick walls. They first had to complete the form work and cut the reo for concreting the slab, then mix and level the concrete. The next stage was to build a brick wall five courses high. Once they were finished with their wall and had cleaned up their work space, they had to apply the render.
AFL Athlete Development
On Monday 17 October our AFL Athlete Development class along with some Year 8 students were lucky to spend time with former New Town High School student and Essendon Football club player Jye Menzie. Jye spoke about his story, from schooling to the AFL, as well answering the students questions. He then took the students outside for a training session.
Arts Showcase
The Arts Showcase will take place on Thursday 3 November 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm on the New Town Campus. See the flyer for more details.
